I
attended the course entitled Postnatal Illness-A Journey
Unique to Motherhood' at the BECC Children's Centre
on 24th April 2009.
Since
having my son nearly five years ago I have received
various forms of therapy but this one day workshop was
more valuable than anything I had been to before.
The
atmosphere was relaxed and the course co-ordinators
just seemed to understand the participants. For the
first time I felt I was with people who really understood
what I experienced and what I still suffer with.
It
really helped to be with other mothers who were also
suffering and it was so striking how there were similarities
and patterns in our difficulties and feelings, despite
never having met and coming from different backgrounds.
We
not only covered how we actually suffered and were suffering
but also were also given tools to help us in the future.
The
follow up counselling calls have also been really useful,
as it meant that we were not left alone after the course.
I
came out from the course feeling energised and several
months later I am still reaping the benefits of it.
The improvement in my well being has also obviously
been beneficial to my husband and son as well.
